FOR SALE
1995 - 3.9L V8 with Professionally Installed LPG system.
Taxed and Tested to August 2008
The following photographs (click thumbnail for high resolution image) show the car 'as is'. I don't do 'tarting up', and thought you should see the car in its natural state - complete with mud! I will offer a full professional valet, inside and out upon sale. Scroll down for full details, please note; Dog and Boats not included :-)
Our 'daily driver' for a couple of years, the car has proved reliable and comfortable. 7 seats (including the two fold down seats in the back) 5 door - all the usual stuff you'd expect from Land Rover - 4 wheel drive, aircon and a complete set of fully round wheels.
Never offroaded but has been used in challenging environments to help in floods, take supplies to boats moored in otherwise totally inaccessible parts of the towpath and to tow a Sankey trailer to move engines and gearboxes. This car is a sturdy workhorse and with LPG at around 50p per Litre, reasonably economical to run.
The full story, warts-n-all...
We had an irritating 'new owner test' which nearly left me ready to torch it - turned out to be the rotor arm - typical I guess. Then the LPG seemed totally lacking in power - new vaporiser sorted that. The brakes were vented discs with kevlar pads (I'm pretty sure that's what they were anyway) and I think the discs had warped, so I had new discs and pads fitted all round last year (2007). A few minor scratches and a small dent I put in trying a tricky move with the Sankey on the back (in my defence, I was collecting a 101 engine and gearbox at the time).
There are a couple of irritating things; Firstly, every now and then the 'Check Engine' light will come on for a couple of seconds, this is related to the second thing; it will occasionally stall and refuse to restart. The cause and cure (so we found out a couple of months ago) is down to the LPG setup starting on petrol then flicking over to LPG. The cure part is basically not to be a tight git, and make sure there's petrol in it to start it and, when it stalls, take the key out, then insert it and it'll start. I've no idea why - probably resets the system or summat, but it works.
I'm probably being a little over critical (Grumble, my Land Rover 101 camper has had far more trials and tribulations) and to be honest, it's never let us down and has been 'the car you just jump in when you want to go somewhere'.
One really annoying thing I've never go a circular tuit to fix is the spring that holds the lock button 'up' on the passenger door - which means that you sometimes have to pull the handle twice to open the door - I know this will sound very petty, but I'm not a very good passenger at the best of times ;-)
It also has a Clifford alarm, but I disconnected it as I couldn't work out how to 'zone' it so it didn't go off with the dog left in the back!
Anything else that broke (like the alternator) was replaced as needed, and it has been regularly serviced and looked after pretty well. We haven't actually needed to spend that much on it - which could be good or bad I guess, but I don't think there's anything seriously wrong (apart from the nut that holds the steering wheel) or anything looming that could be costly. The obvious caveat to that is the inbuilt 'new owner test' that every landie seems to have inbuilt to test whether the new owner is worthy or not, to own it.
Oh, new set of tyres in 2007 and bits of exhaust changed late 2006. Dunno what else to say really. I'd keep it if I hadn't gone and got Charlotte a D2 for a "Significant Birthday" and treated myself to a new toy at the same time ;-)
My yardstick for any car is generally whether I have total faith that, should anything nasty happen to family or friends, and we have to dash off in a hurry, the car will get us there, safely and quickly. This car passes that test - I hope the D2 proves to as well.
Price? I'm asking 2,499 - I don't really know what it's "worth" but I think it's priced "fair". I'll be a little flexible on the price - and for a very select few, I'll be a little more flexible (always nicer to know a motor you've spent so much of your life in goes to someone who'll look after it well).
I'm happy to let people poke it, kick the tyres and get an AA/RAC/whatever inspection.
